Why we built our own lead engine

Reselling someone else's contact database is the fastest way to ship lead generation and the fastest way to lose control of your data quality.

Written by the Closr team

The obvious way to add lead generation to a sales product is to integrate a data vendor. It takes a sprint, the coverage is instant, and the demo is impressive. We decided not to.

The problem with reselling

When the database belongs to someone else, so does the answer to every hard question. Why is this record stale? Where did this address come from? Why did the price change? You end up as a support desk for a system you cannot inspect, and your customers' bounce rates are set by a vendor's refresh schedule.

What we built instead

Closr crawls and maintains its own lead database. Search runs against filters — industry, size, location, role — or against a plain-language description of your ideal customer that gets compiled into those same filters.

Verification is layered so most of it costs nothing: syntax, MX records, disposable-domain lists, and role-account detection run on every address before it reaches your list, with an optional deeper verification pass for the ones that matter. Results split into everything that matches, what's net new since last time, and what you've already saved.

The part that compounds

Owning the pipeline means the lead engine improves on our schedule rather than a vendor's. It also means a saved lead is one click from being a contact, in a sequence, on a deal board, and on a booking page — because it never left the product to begin with.

Stop scheduling. Start closing.

Everything above runs in one product, on one plan, from one dashboard.
